A message from our founder, Sandy:
When I was very young, I was scared of talking to anyone I met. It meant I never really had friends at school. Being the only Sikh girl in my schools made it even harder to fit in. I wished I had lighter skin so the other girls would talk to me. When I was in secondary school, I became a victim of bullying. Most days I would go home crying and feeling worthless. When I developed severe acne in college, my self-esteem got worse, and I started to struggle with anxiety and depression . Then, my eating disorder began to formulate. I felt all alone, wishing I looked different, and that I could be more confident and popular.
When I started on my health and fitness journey, these feelings of worthlessness never left me. I became obsessed with eating as little as possible and losing weight. I became dangerously underweight and my hair became thin and brittle. I struggled to walk long distances because of the lack of energy I had. I was admitted to an eating disorder clinic in 2016. Although I regained a healthy weight, I didn’t feel truly confident in my body until I discovered gut health. I realised the importance of a natural and varied diet.
I created SB nutrition because I don’t want anyone else to suffer like I did. I want you to know that you’re not alone in your anxiety or depression, or because you just don’t fit in.
